Children Orphaned by Recent Double Homicide to Receive Donations and School Supplies from SJ Police

The San Jose Police Officer's Association (POA) Charitable Foundation established a Victim's Assistance Fund on behalf of the three children who were orphaned as a result of the recent double homicide.  On Monday, July 23rd, Marybel and Pedro Jimenez were murdered inside a residence in the 300 block of N. 7th Street.  The three children, who were present inside the residence at the time of the murders, tragically lost both of their parents. 

 
While homicide detectives continue to work tirelessly to locate and arrest the suspect, other officers within the department expressed a desire to help.  The San Jose POA was willing to coordinate the Victim's Assistance Fund to provide the public a way to give financial support to the children in their time of need.  To date, the POA has raised over $3,000.00 in donations.   
 
The Police Department also held two internal fundraisers in the form of breakfast burrito sales which, along with additional officer donations, raised approximately $1,600.00.  One officer (who wished to remain anonymous) felt compelled to match that figure, and also donated $1,600.00 for a total of $3,200.00.  Between the POA and the Police Department, over $6,200.00 has been raised to help the children. 
 
Today at 3:00 P.M., the children, accompanied by their aunt, will attend Swing Shift Patrol briefing at the police department where they will receive gift cards to help pay for groceries, clothing and school supplies.
 
Due to the presence of the children, the media will not be permitted to film inside the briefing room.  However, the childrens' aunt, Erica, will be available after the briefing at approximately 3:30 P.M. in front of the Police Department for on-camera interviews.
